A recent study concludes that SneakPeek has been found to be 99.9% accurate when determining fetal sex, as confirmed at time of birth!

You’ll get an email from sneakpeekresults@sneakpeektest.com with the subject line “Your SneakPeek Result Is In!” Be sure to check all your folders including Promotions and Junk Mail in case your email filter redirects it, or use your email search tool bar to search for sneakpeekresults.

The SneakPeek test is accurate any time from 8 weeks into pregnancy to birth. SneakPeek looks for Y chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in mom's blood. The amount of fetal DNA increases the further mom is in her pregnancy, so the test can be taken with accurate results starting at 8 weeks until birth. Not sure if you'e at 8 weeks yet? Use our easy test eligibility calculator to double check.

SneakPeek looks for male DNA in the fetal DNA found in mom's blood sample. In the case of identical twins, if male DNA is found, then both babies are boys. If no male DNA is found, then both babies are girls. For fraternal twins, finding male DNA means at least one baby is a boy, but cannot distinguish if the second is a boy or girl.

Clinical studies have shown that fetal DNA clears rapidly from the maternal bloodstream, within 1-2 days. Therefore, a miscarriage will not affect your current test results.

With SneakPeek Gender At-Home, you receive a test kit that provides everything you need to take the test, from the comfort of your home. Choose from two sample-taking methods, lancet or SneakPeek Snap. The sample is then mailed back to SneakPeek Labs in our prepaid package for analysis. Visit the How It Works page to see more about lancet versus Snap. SneakPeek Clinical lets you visit a participating location to have your blood drawn or use SneakPeek Snap in a clinical setting (depending on location). The clinic then sends your sample to SneakPeek Labs for analysis. See our SneakPeek Clinical page to find a location near you.

During pregnancy, cell-free fetal DNA is released by the placenta and can be found in mom’s bloodstream. Using a small sample of mom’s blood, SneakPeek tests for the presence of male DNA (Y-chromosomes). Y-chromosomes would only be present if mom is pregnant with a boy. If no Y-chromosomes are found, mom is carrying a girl. This method is known as noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and is safe for both mom and baby. See the peer-reviewed published study that indicates this test is 99.9% accurate as early as 8 weeks into pregnancy in the International Journal of Pregnancy and Childbirth (Int J Pregn & Chi Birth. 2020; 6(6):165-168).

SneakPeek is a DNA test that looks for male chromosomes in the cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) found in mom's blood, a process that was first established in 1997 and refined in a multitude of scientific publications since. Urine-based tests have no scientific validity, as there are no gender markers in urine. See this blog post for more details.

Yes! The test components are good for 6 months to a year, just check the expiration date listed at the bottom of each box. Want to check if you're at 8 weeks? Use our easy test eligibility calculator.

With SneakPeek Standard, you'll receive your gender results 5-7 business days after ordering your test kit. With SneakPeek FastTrack, you'll receive gender results within 72 hours of ordering your test kit. These timelines are subject to mailing prior to daily postal cut-offs and proximity to SneakPeek Labs.

The SneakPeek Early Gender DNA Test is a non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), and it's safe for both mom and baby.

SneakPeek cannot confirm pregnancy. The test looks for male chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in mom's blood. If there is no fetal DNA in mom's blood, the test will return a girl result, because mom is a girl. On the off-chance that the test is contaminated with outside male DNA (even pets!), it may return a boy result. Please confirm pregnancy with your doctor prior to taking SneakPeek.

Yes, you can! While moms have to be at least 8 weeks into pregnancy to use the SneakPeek Gender test, the kit is good for 6 months to a year, with an expiration date listed at the bottom of every box. Just leave the plastic wrap on, and only open the kit when you're ready to take the test.

SneakPeek is very aware of the health implications associated with the COVID-19 virus, and we’re following best practices in line with the latest updates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and government agencies. SneakPeek products are shipped from San Diego, California, and are manufactured in North America. Due to the nature of our product which requires it to be free of contamination from outside sources of DNA, we have always ensured our products are fully sterilized and hermetically sealed before being sent to our customers, and continue to do so with rigorous QA standards. Of course, we’re watching out for the health of our team members, especially those sending packages to our customers, and encouraging anyone experiencing cold or respiratory illnesses to stay home and rest. Thank you for your trust in SneakPeek. We understand this is a difficult situation and time, and are continuing to ensure all products sent to our customers are fully sanitized, sealed, and safe to use.

The doppler monitor works by using sound waves to identify moving objects. A phenomenon known as the "Doppler Effect," the sound waves adjust based upon whether the object is moving toward or away from you. The device provides audio output from the back and forth movement of the heartbeat.

The FDA confirmed there are no known risks of using an at-home fetal doppler because ultrasound technology doesn't use ionizing radiation. Despite this, there are some precautions to understand about the usage of these devices, namely that this is not a replacement for regular doctors visits.

Don't panic. Sometimes the position of the baby can make it difficult to hear a baby's heartbeat, even for a trained physician. This is why we recommend testing the doppler on your own heartbeat first in order to get a feel for things. If you're still having trouble hearing the heartbeat, try different positions -- it might be easier to find your baby's heartbeat lying down, reclined, or sitting upright. Do not apply additional pressure. Only a light amount of pressure is needed to successfully operate the baby doppler. If you're pressing too hard, this could cause your growing baby discomfort.

In our 2019 study that verified the accuracy of our test at 8 weeks into pregnancy, the majority of participants were in their 8th week of pregnancy. In our most recent study, while the range was 7-37 weeks with a median of 10 weeks gestational age, only a handful of women were in their 7th week, so we still recommend taking the SneakPeek Gender test at 8 weeks into pregnancy.

Yes! Simply visit the family member’s page in your account in the Parent Portal, click the Traits reports that you’d like to order, and make the purchase. The report results will be added for the family member and available immediately for viewing.

Tests that are purchased for different family members within the Parent Portal, after the main account holder has logged in, will automatically be linked in the same main account. For additional tests purchased from the SneakPeek website, entering your account password during the checkout process will connect the new tests to your main family account.

The test is designed to be easy to use for babies and toddlers ages 0-3 years old, to learn about their future adult physical features such as height or hair texture, and provide nutrition and sleep advice geared for their age and DNA. Older children and adults can also take the test to learn more about themselves and compare family members.

No, SneakPeek Traits Early DNA test is not a paternity test. Even if both parents and child take the test, it does not calculate the percent relatedness between the parents and child, so it cannot be used to confirm or deny paternity.

Our previous studies used the gender of the baby determined by the 2nd trimester anatomy ultrasound to compare SneakPeek Gender results. While anatomy ultrasound sonograms are generally considered to be accurate, like any method other than live birth, they also have an error rate. Our most recent study uses sex at live birth as its confirmation method, the only accurate method, and found that the SneakPeek Early Gender DNA Test results matched 99.9% of the time. The incorrect gender was given in only 1 result out of 1,029 live births.

SneakPeek Traits does not calculate percent relatedness between genetic sets, and thus is not considered an ancestry or heritage product that enables the finding of relatives. The reports let you learn more about your child’s current or future features as predicted by genetics. The results of other family members within the same main account can also be compared, but results of members in separate accounts are inaccessible for privacy reasons and cannot be compared.

The test is safe for use during pregnancy. However, keep in mind that the test provides results for the DNA of the person whose mouth is rubbed with the swab (in this case, the mother). Thus, the test will not provide any DNA results for unborn babies, even if used during pregnancy. If you would like to know more about your baby, please wait until after birth to use the test for your baby.

First, the DNA is collected! The At-Home DNA swab kit you’ll receive through the mail has easy instructions to provide a sample – just rub the inside of your child's cheek with a swab. No blood, no pain, no fuss. When the sample arrives back at SneakPeek Labs, we isolate the DNA and genotype it to identify variants. These variants are used to develop personalized reports tailored for your child's unique DNA.

We use a well-recognized method called genotyping to identify small genetic differences that lead to our individual traits. Genotyping has been used to test over 15 million samples worldwide and is scientifically validated to provide accurate and reliable results.

After removing the collection tube and preparing it to be mailed back to SneakPeek Labs, the device casing can be disposed of in a normal trash bin.

No, for safety reasons, the SneakPeek Snap microneedles are designed to deploy only one time. After a maximum of 4 minutes, feel free to send back your sample even if it hasn't filled to the bottom line. We're often able to provide results using smaller samples, and if not, we'll send you a free replacement device to try again.

Based on research studies, tattoos have not been shown to affect blood sample results or the ability to successfully collect a blood sample with SneakPeek Snap. Using SneakPeek Snap will also not affect your tattoo!

SneakPeek Snap has been tested in different areas of the body, and the upper arm has been shown to be the most successful. Please only use Sneak Peek Snap on the upper arm, following the instruction manual directions.

When the blue button is pushed, tiny microneedles deploy and retract back in under 1 second. Blood is collected through the holes left in the skin via a light suction caused by the button returning to its original position. You never need to see the needles, and they're only in your skin for under a second.

Yes, you can! SneakPeek looks for male DNA in the fetal DNA found in mom's blood. In the case of identical triplets (or more!), the presence of male DNA means all three babies are boys. The absence of male DNA means all three babies are girls. For fraternal triplets, finding male DNA means at least one baby is a boy, but the test cannot confirm if the others are boys or girls.

SneakPeek looks only for the presence of Y chromosomes and is extremely sensitive and accurate. No blood thinners or other drugs are known to impact SneakPeek gender results.

Yes! See our test eligibility calculator. You can take the SneakPeek Test when you are 8 weeks into pregnancy, which is 8 weeks after the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP), or 32 weeks before your Estimated Due Date (EDD). The test eligibility calculator makes it easy to see if you're eligible.

To take SneakPeek, you must be at least 8 weeks into pregnancy, which can be calculated using either the first day of your last menstrual period, or baby's estimated due date. This test eligibility calculator makes it easy!

Yes, your results are still reliable! Even if a doctor’s dating scan places you as early as 6 weeks into pregnancy when you took the SneakPeek test, you can still trust your results. A scientific study was conducted that showed SneakPeek was 99.9% accurate in determining fetal sex for babies who were 8 weeks into gestational age. In this study, LMP was one of the measures used to establish 8 weeks, so if you were at least 8 weeks into pregnancy using LMP, you can rely on your results.

With SneakPeek At-Home, you receive a test kit that provides everything you need to take the test, from the comfort of your home. If you purchase the Lancet kit, 3 lancets are included that you use to prick your finger to collect 7-10 drops of blood in a small test tube. If you purchase the Snap kit, you'll receive a breakthrough SneakPeek Snap device to take your sample with no fingersticks. Either way, the sample is mailed back to SneakPeek Labs for analysis. Videos on this page show the SneakPeek At-Home process, for both Lancet and Snap. SneakPeek Clinical lets you visit a participating location to have your blood drawn in a clinical setting. The clinic then sends your sample to SneakPeek Labs for analysis.

SneakPeek tests for male chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in mom’s blood, so it's very important to keep your sample clean of outside male DNA. In-depth instructions are provided in our test kits, but overall for the Lancet kit: 1) Clean and sanitize a flat surface on which to place the test kit, 2) Thoroughly wash both hands and under all fingernails, and let them air dry, 3) Ensure no males (even male animals!) touch the test kit components. For the Snap kit: 1) Wash hands, 2) Clean a spot on the upper arm with our provided brush, 3) Only use female helpers, or self-push the button. These steps help ensure any male DNA found by SneakPeek is from fetal DNA.

No. The swabs should always be used on the same person. We provide two swabs to increase the chance that there is sufficient DNA for the test. If you use the swabs on two different people, your result will not be correct.

Although this is not recommended, please send the swab back as instructed. Typically, there is still sufficient high-quality DNA in this situation.

Please use just the second swab and discard the one that was contaminated. Do not wash the swab or put a contaminated swab in your child’s mouth. Often one swab has sufficient DNA to run the test.

Although this is not recommended, we are typically still able to get high-quality DNA in this situation. Please return the swabs as instructed.

If you have difficulty collecting the first swab, take a break and try again later with the second swab. Swabs do not have to be collected on the same day. Regardless of collection process, we recommend sending back both swabs to ensure there is enough DNA for the test. However, if you are truly only able to collect 1 swab, please send it back. Often one swab has sufficient DNA to run the test.

SneakPeek Traits reports are developed by a team of scientists, genetic counselors, bioinformaticians, and data scientists, using the most recent and robust genetic studies. Yes, you can! Instructions are provided for both self use and use with a helper. Please note you can only use FEMALE helpers, as male helpers have been found to contaminate the DNA samples, causing incorrect results.

No, unfortunately male helpers have been found to contaminate the DNA samples, causing incorrect results. Please feel free to use FEMALE helpers, following the directions provided in the instruction manual.

We recommend a maximum time of 4 minutes. After that, feel free to send back your sample even if it hasn't filled to the bottom line. We're often able to provide results using smaller samples, and if not, we'll send you a free replacement device to try again.

If your blood is not moving freely enough to coat the test tube in order to mix with the preservative, try tapping the test tube, lid side down, firmly on a flat surface to generate blood movement. Then shake the tube lightly for 20 seconds or until blood coats the tube. If blood is still not moving freely, repeat the tapping with lid side down step, as well as the 20s shaking step, as many times as needed until blood coats the tube.

No, for safety reasons, the SneakPeek Snap microneedles are designed to deploy only one time. If no blood is collected, it may be that there wasn't a complete seal with the skin when the blue button was pushed, or the blue button wasn't pushed down far enough, until a "click" was heard. Please try again, holding the device firmly and directly on the skin, and pushing the blue button all the way down to the device casing, until a "click" is heard. If it doesn't work a second time, please let us know, and we'll send you a replacement device.

Have no fear! Your DNA blood sample can stay stable for a month in the test tube, due to a preservative that was included in the tube.

You'll receive a "Sample Arrived" email by 4pm Pacific on the same day it arrives at SneakPeek Labs. Sample shipments are delivered to SneakPeek Labs in the morning, Monday-Saturday. Depending on whether you used SneakPeek Standard or SneakPeek FastTrack, the subject line will say “Your SneakPeek Sample Has Arrived” or “Your SneakPeek FastTrack Sample Has Arrived.”

SneakPeek recommends bringing your return package to a local post office to reduce the chance that your sample will be exposed to extreme temperatures of below 40°F or above 90°F for an extended period of time, which can damage it. However, these are also viable alternate ways to return your sample:
  • Schedule a time and location for your package to be picked up through the USPS site: https://tools.usps.com/schedule-pickup-steps.htm.
  • Drop off your package in a USPS bin or in your mailbox. Be sure to check pick-up times to ensure your sample isn’t exposed to extended periods of below 40°F temperature.

You can expect to get your results 2-3 weeks after your sample is received at SneakPeek Labs.

Once you return your sample using the prepaid USPS First Class mailing label, it will take an average of 3 business days for the sample to reach our lab. When your kit is checked in at SneakPeek Labs, you will receive an email notifying you of its safe arrival. The timeline in your Parent Portal will also be updated.

SneakPeek Labs is fully disinfected twice a day; some stations multiple times throughout the day. Our lab personnel wear personal protective equipment at all times, including face masks, latex gloves, lab coats, and goggles, and blood samples are discarded in regulated biohazard waste bins that are removed by a professional hazardous waste removal company. We understand this is a difficult situation and time, and thank you for placing your trust in us. We are continuing to ensure we meet our promise to our customers as well as protecting the health and safety of our personnel.

SneakPeek remains fully operational, but slower USPS mail service due to the holidays and COVID-19 may delay some shipments to you, or your sample back to our labs by 1-2 days each way. See information from the USPS site here. We thank you for your patience and understanding, and we hope to return to normal mail delivery service time soon.

At SneakPeek, meeting promised turnaround times for gender results for our customers is a top priority, and we are continuing with business as usual to process samples in a timely manner. We have always been committed to the health and safety of our lab personnel, and continue to uphold our protective practices to the highest level.
