The SneakPeek test is accurate any time from 6 weeks into pregnancy to birth. SneakPeek looks for Y chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in mom's blood. The amount of fetal DNA increases the further mom is in her pregnancy, so the test can be taken with accurate results starting at 6 weeks until birth. Not sure if you're at 6 weeks yet? Use our easy test eligibility calculator to double check.

SneakPeek looks for male DNA in the fetal DNA found in mom's blood sample. In the case of identical twins, if male DNA is found, then both babies are boys. If no male DNA is found, then both babies are girls. For fraternal twins, finding male DNA means at least one baby is a boy, but cannot distinguish if the second is a boy or girl.

With SneakPeek Gender At-Home, you receive a test kit that provides everything you need to take the test, from the comfort of your home. Choose from two sample-taking methods, Lancet or Snap. The sample is then mailed back to SneakPeek Labs in our prepaid package for analysis. Visit the How It Works page to see more about Lancet versus Snap. SneakPeek Clinical lets you visit a participating location to have your blood drawn or use SneakPeek Snap in a clinical setting (depending on location). The clinic then sends your sample to SneakPeek Labs for analysis. See our SneakPeek Clinical page to find a location near you.

During pregnancy, cell-free fetal DNA is released by the placenta and can be found in mom’s bloodstream. Using a small sample of mom’s blood, SneakPeek tests for the presence of male DNA (Y chromosomes). Y chromosomes would only be present if mom is pregnant with a boy. If no Y chromosomes are found, mom is carrying a girl. This method is known as noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and is safe for both mom and baby. See the peer-reviewed published study that indicates this test is over 99% accurate in the International Journal of Pregnancy and Childbirth (Int J Pregn & Chi Birth. 2020; 6(6):165-168).

SneakPeek is a DNA test that looks for male chromosomes in the cell-free fetal DNA (cffDNA) found in mom's blood, a process that was first established in 1997 and refined in a multitude of scientific publications since. Urine-based tests have no scientific validity, as there are no gender markers in urine. See this blog post for more details.

SneakPeek Standard includes standard outbound and return shipping, and gender results reported the day after we receive your sample at SneakPeek lab. SneakPeek FastTrack includes expedited outbound and return shipping, and gender results reported the same day we receive your sample at SneakPeek lab. On average, SneakPeek FastTrack can save 5-7 days of total turnaround time over SneakPeek Standard.

The SneakPeek Early Gender DNA Test is a non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), and it's safe for both mom and baby.

SneakPeek cannot confirm pregnancy. The test looks for male chromosomes in the fetal DNA found in mom's blood. If there is no fetal DNA in mom's blood, the test will return a girl result, because mom is a girl. On the off-chance that the test is contaminated with outside male DNA (even pets!), it may return a boy result. Please confirm pregnancy with your doctor prior to taking SneakPeek.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Firstly, schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider, be it a doctor or midwife, to start monitoring your pregnancy's progress and ensure both you and the baby remain healthy. If you're keen, you can also consider early gender determination methods, like the SneakPeek At Home Gender Test, to connect more deeply with your unborn child. Remember also to explore prenatal care options and start planning key events like baby showers or gender reveal parties.

Yes, you can. However, it's crucial to remember that the results might be less accurate due to the variable lengths of menstrual cycles. If you have irregular periods, it's advisable to seek medical guidance for a more accurate due date prediction.

For pregnancies conceived through IVF or other fertility treatments, the due date is typically calculated by counting 40 weeks from the date of egg retrieval or fertilization.

Doctors estimate due dates using various methods. One common approach is an ultrasound scan between weeks 6 and 8 of pregnancy, measuring the baby's growth to estimate gestational age. For those undergoing IVF treatments, the embryo transfer date is crucial. Specifically, a 3-day embryo transfer adds 263 days, while a 5-day transfer adds 261 days to calculate the due date.

If your blood is not moving freely enough to coat the test tube in order to mix with the preservative, try tapping the test tube, lid side down, firmly on a flat surface to generate blood movement. Then shake the tube lightly for 20 seconds or until blood coats the tube. If blood is still not moving freely, repeat the tapping with lid side down step, as well as the 20s shaking step, as many times as needed until blood coats the tube.

However, these are also viable alternate ways to return your sample:
  • Schedule a time and location for your package to be picked up through the USPS site: https://tools.usps.com/schedule-pickup-steps.htm.
  • Drop off your package in a USPS bin or in your mailbox. Be sure to check pick-up times to ensure your sample isn’t exposed to extended periods of below 40°F temperature.

Samples are delivered to SneakPeek lab Monday through Saturday. You'll first receive an email confirming that we've received your sample at SneakPeek lab. If you used SneakPeek FastTrack, your results will be sent by 8:59 pm Pacific Time (11:59 pm Eastern Time) the same day your "Sample Arrived" email is received. We've got you! Because inconclusive results can happen with any type of lab testing, we'll set you up with a retest kit completely on us if this happens. Retest kits are always sent with the same collection and shipping method as your initial test and we'll always make sure your new sample gets same day priority processing, with results in your preferred email inbox by 8pm PST/11pm EST the day of delivery to the SneakPeek Lab.

We'll let you know in your sample update email when a retest kit is scheduled to ship. If you prefer not to retest, that's alright! Please just send us an "Inconclusive Refund" request email by 1pm PST/4pm EST the day of your shipment. If we aren't able to locate your order for the new package, we'll reach out to touch base with you for a shipment the next business day.

First, we assure you this doesn't mean anything is wrong! We may just need a second look. When we send an inconclusive sample update email, it's because our team wasn't able to pull enough total DNA from your first vial to tell. We always have two SneakPeek lab technicians process samples, so we'll only ask for a retest if we're 100% sure the first vial didn't yeild enough total DNA info to tell one way or the other.   Here are some reasons we may not have been able to pull enough total DNA to confirm a boy or girl result with the first try:
  • The sample may have clotted (some clotting is normal, though a bit of extra clotting throughout the vial may make it tricky for us to separate the DNA to analyze fully).
  • Our 30 day preservative solution may not have distributed enough to get into all of the nooks and crannies in your vial after closing the tube up and mixing (for any sample, the best way to mix after shutting the tube fully is by rotating the sample gently starting from all the way upside down to all the way right-side up ten times).
  • The sample may have had a slightly lower volume (If you collected a volume smaller than the 500μl we ask for, please still send this in! Most smaller samples are still successfully processed).
  • There may have been a very small amount of contamination during collection and we want a second peek for accuracy. Us having confidence in your result is just as important to us as it is to you!
  • By chance, your sample may have just not gotten to us with enough total DNA! This happens every once in awhile with a collection and a retest almost always does the trick.
If you do end up recollecting, please follow the same collection method, using the instructions included with your test. We're just as full of anticipation to let you know your result, so your new sample will be at the front of our processing queue the day it's delivered to us!

SneakPeek Customer Care is available Monday-Friday, 9-5pm PT. Please visit Contact Us to send a request, and we'll respond within 1-2 business days.

Yes, you can! Instructions are provided for both self use and use with a helper. Please note you can only use FEMALE helpers, as male helpers have been found to contaminate the DNA samples, causing incorrect results.

No, unfortunately male helpers have been found to contaminate the DNA samples, causing incorrect results. Please feel free to use FEMALE helpers, following the directions provided in the instruction manual.

We recommend a maximum time of 4 minutes. After that, feel free to send back your sample even if it hasn't filled to the bottom line. We're often able to provide results using smaller samples, and if not, we'll send you a free replacement device to try again.

No, for safety reasons, the SneakPeek Snap microneedles are designed to deploy only one time. After a maximum of 4 minutes, feel free to send back your sample even if it hasn't filled to the bottom line. We're often able to provide results using smaller samples, and if not, we'll send you a free replacement device to try again.

SneakPeek Snap has been tested in different areas of the body, and the upper arm has been shown to be the most successful. Please only use Sneak Peek Snap on the upper arm, following the instruction manual directions.

If no blood is collected, it may be that there wasn't a complete seal with the skin when the blue button was pushed, or the blue button wasn't pushed down far enough, until a "click" was heard. Please try again, holding the device firmly and directly on the skin, and pushing the blue button all the way down to the device casing, until a "click" is heard. If it doesn't work a second time, please let us know, and we'll send you a replacement device.

Have no fear! Your DNA blood sample can stay stable for a month in the test tube, due to a preservative that was included in the tube.

You'll receive a "Sample Arrived" email by 4:00 pm Pacific Time (7:00 pm Eastern Time) on the same day it arrives at SneakPeek Labs. Sample shipments are delivered to SneakPeek Labs in the morning, Monday-Saturday. Depending on whether you used SneakPeek Standard or SneakPeek FastTrack, the subject line will say “Your SneakPeek Sample Has Arrived” or “Your SneakPeek FastTrack Sample Has Arrived.”

SneakPeek recommends bringing your return package to a local post office to reduce the chance that your sample will be exposed to extreme temperatures of below 40°F or above 90°F for an extended period of time, which can damage it.

If you used SneakPeek Standard, or purchased SneakPeek at a retail store, your results will be sent by 2:00 pm Pacific Time (5:00 pm Eastern Time) the day after receiving your "Sample Arrived" email.

SneakPeek is the most accurate early gender DNA test on the market, and we fully stand behind our results. If the gender of your newborn doesn't match your test result, you’ll receive a full refund. Learn more about SneakPeek's clinically-proven over 99% accuracy and Accuracy Guarantee refund policy.

Refunds are received within 7-10 business days.

Yes! When you receive your test kit, you'll activate the kit online, using a unique barcode found on the kit. On this kit activation page, you'll be able provide both your email address as well as a "Results" email address, and we'll send the gender results to the "Results" address.

SneakPeek is a DNA-based test, so hormone medications and fluctuations have no impact on results. Learn more about SneakPeek’s Early Gender DNA Test Science.

Your test results will be sent to the email address you provided during kit activation, and it will come from [email protected]. Try typing "sneakpeek" into your email search tool bar to find your Results email. If you used SneakPeek FastTrack and your test results haven't arrived within 12 hours after receiving your Check-in email, or if you used SneakPeek Standard and your test results haven't arrived within 24 hours after receiving your Check-in email, contact us with your barcode number, and we'll research further.

SneakPeek looks only for the presence of Y chromosomes and is extremely sensitive and accurate. No blood thinners or other drugs are known to impact SneakPeek gender results.

Provide the email address that you'd like the Order Confirmation and Shipping Confirmation with tracking info emails to be sent to.

Please note this is NOT the email address that gender results will be sent to. That email address can be designated during the kit activation process.
