Frequently asked questions.

During pregnancy, cell-free fetal DNA is released by the placenta and can be found in mom’s bloodstream. Using a small sample of mom’s blood, SneakPeek tests for the presence of male DNA (Y-chromosomes). Y-chromosomes would only be present if mom is pregnant with a boy. If no Y-chromosomes are found, mom is carrying a girl. This method is known as noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and is safe for both mom and baby. See the peer-reviewed published study that indicates this test is 99.6% accurate as early as 9 weeks into pregnancy in the Journal of Pregnancy and Child Health. (J Preg Child Health 4:358).

SneakPeek At-Home lets you use a simple finger stick to collect a small sample of blood in the comfort of your home. Choose SneakPeek Clinical if you'd like blood to be drawn for you in a clinical setting.

To take SneakPeek, you must be at least 9 weeks into pregnancy, which can be calculated using either the first day of your last menstrual period, or baby's estimated due date. Use our Test-ready calculator to see if you're eligible!

You can take the SneakPeek Gender DNA Test as early as 9 weeks into pregnancy.

The first day you are test ready is 9 weeks after the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP) or 31 weeks before your Estimated Due Date (EDD). https://sneakpeektest.com/calculator/

We know it’s hard to wait! But no, you really shouldn’t use SneakPeek Test until you are at least 9 weeks pregnant. Because test results could be either inconclusive or inaccurate, we don’t process any sample that does not meet the minimum threshold of gestational age. Of course, the day you reach the threshold — 9 weeks after the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP) or 31 weeks before your Estimated Due Date (EDD) — we’ll be ready and waiting to help.

According to controlled laboratory testing, the SneakPeek Early Gender Test predicts a baby’s gender with over 99% accuracy (99.6% to be exact). If you want a little more background on the science behind that percentage, here it is: In controlled laboratory tests, SneakPeek Test accurately detected shared male fetal DNA (the presence of the Y-chromosome in the mother’s sample) in more than 99% of samples provided by women pregnant with a male fetus. (Note: all women in the study were 9 weeks or further along in their pregnancy.) Male fetal DNA was consistently not detected in samples from pregnant women carrying female fetuses. In a blind multi-center study performed in 2015 with samples collected at four clinics, SneakPeek showed an accuracy rate of 100% for fetal sex identification. The results of this study are available here. In at-home testing, a validation study presented at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) Conference showed that SneakPeek Early Gender Test is highly accurate at determining baby gender as early as 9 weeks into pregnancy. The data from the validation study showed 98% accuracy, the results may be reviewed here. While our mission is to provide a convenient, affordable at-home gender test, there are some limitations to performing the test yourself, and in an environment that may not be totally controlled. For instance, the laboratory process may result in errors if the sample does not contain a sufficient amount of fetal DNA, the sample is collected too early in the pregnancy (e.g., earlier than 9 weeks pregnant), the DNA in the sample is degraded, or the sample becomes contaminated by environmental, handling, or other sources of male DNA that may affect test results. It is therefore very important to collect the sample according to the instructions and procedures provided with the SneakPeek Early Gender Test. Failure to follow the instructions and procedures provided with the SneakPeek Early Gender Test may produce a an inaccurate result. SneakPeek’s parent company, Gateway Genomics, offers a 100% refund to customers whose test results do not match the gender of their newborn baby. Our refund policy is available here. SneakPeek is not intended to diagnose any disease or medical condition. SneakPeek was developed and its performance characteristics were determined by Gateway Genomics, LLC. SneakPeek has not been cleared or approved by the FDA.

The accuracy of SneakPeek earlier than 9 weeks into pregnancy has not been evaluated. SneakPeek should not be used until you are 9 weeks pregnant. You may purchase a SneakPeek test now, and then use the kit when you are at least 9 weeks into pregnancy.

Yes you can. Since we can’t control for any contamination during the collection of your sample, it is very important to follow the instructions you get with your test kit exactly. Contamination of your sample with male DNA will yield a false positive result.

Carefully follow all instructions and make sure no males are present or recently present where you choose to take the test. Sanitize the surface you are collecting your sample on. Make sure to thoroughly sterilize your hands and focus on scrubbing your fingertips and under your nails. Rinse hands thoroughly and allow them to air dry. Do not use a towel or touch anything. Do not allow anyone who has male DNA (including your partner!) to open your test box or touch any of the contents inside before, during, or after sample collection. Do not allow a male to help you in any way to collect your sample.

A miscarriage that has occurred more than 3 months prior to taking the test has no effect on the accuracy of the test.

A previous pregnancy carrying a male has no effect on the accuracy of our test.

We completely stand behind our product and will gladly give you a full refund if our result does not match the gender of your newborn baby.
